To be 100% truthful, I've never been a big believer in resolutions. Resolutions, shmesolutions is what I say year after year, but after reflecting on 2015 and the heck of a whirlwind 180 that has been for me, I’ve decided to go for the whole thing—however, there is a catch—instead of making my goal the typical surface-level “get a toned bod” or “save more money” or “raise my GPA,” I’m going for something deeper:
P E A C E.
That’s right. It's a huge one, but isn't that all we actually want in life? Behind every major (or minuscule) goal, resolution if you will, is the belief that whatever we are aspiring to change will bring us peace in the end—whether it's to drag your booty to the gym or find the guy– its all the same. We think that the next thing and the next thing after that are ultimately going to make us feel better about ourselves, boost our own morale, thus giving us some sort of goddamn peace of mind, but in searching the outside world for our peace, we will never be truly satisfied.
Don't get me wrong, I am a big-time believer in goals to push our productivity and expansion and all, but even if we reach our “goal” or get that grade or buy the new shoes, it’s always on to the next.
Maybe you got the body you wanted, but wait, that wasn’t enough. It didn't FEEL good enough, so now you move on to the next best thing, in this mad dash for that indescribable “thing” that is supposedly at the end of the tunnel– and that “thing” is peace.
Its like we’re on an excursion to find this great euphoric FEELING in everything besides ourselves. And let me tell ya, it ain’t working and it ain’t gonna work. That’s the hard, cut and dry truth.
THE #1 KEY: Looking for peace on the inside, rather than chasing our tails trying to find it someplace else.
If we do not first realize that peace begins with me, we will be chasing forever. It is all right here. The magical key to the goodness of life is right in front of us—or within us—and it has been there all along, waiting.
I am peace.
Each and every human was born as a being of pure peace and it's something we spend our lives chasing to achieve if only we could remember that peace is my natural state, not outside of me.
So, in this wonderful 2016 I am going to stop for a second and honor what I have within me in order to take the baby steps towards authentic peace, and I challenge you to do it with me.
Get quiet. Sit with yourself, and know: I am peace.
Love and Light,
